Pub licence reviews lead to conditions
Councils are attaching stringent conditions to pub and club licences after holding reviews.
The Royal Hotel in Waterfoot, Lancashire, has been banned from holding functions for under-25s - such as 18th or 21st birthdays - for three months, following instances of disorder and underage drinking. The pub has also had its opening times slashed by about two hours, litter must be cleared from outside every morning and the beer garden must be empty by 9.30pm.
Hazel Steen, chair of the licensing sub-committee at Rossendale Borough Council, warned: "This is the last chance saloon and the council will be monitoring the conditions of the licence to ensure they are complied with." The conditions were set last week after police called for a review.
The Royal Hotel is owned by Punch Taverns and operated by a multiple lessee. Meanwhile, Club Teeze in Northampton must now give police 10 working days' notice if it wants to hold any promotion. Police can cancel the event if they think it will cause disorder.
The venue must deploy at least three licensed door supervisors at the entrance, and two at the bar. It was also told to employ a new DPS.
Northampton Borough Coun-
cil heard last week that a string of incidents had been recorded at the club between May 2005 and January 2006.
