S&N to brew Baltika in the UK
Scottish & Newcastle UK (S&NUK) is set to beef-up its support for Russian beer Baltika after signing a deal to brew it under licence in the UK.
As a result of the deal, the beer is being launched in 330ml bottles for the first time.
It is currently available in 500ml bottles and on draught.
The agreement lasts until 2021. S&NUK already has exclusive rights for UK distribution of Baltika, which is owned by Baltic Beverage Holdings, a 50/50 joint venture between S&N and Carlsberg.
S&NUK promises a consumer marketing programme for 2007, including targeted press advertising and promotional activity. The brand also leant its name to a race at the Grand National on Saturday - the Baltika Beer Aintree Hurdle.
S&NUK managing director and chairman John Dunsmore said: “We are delighted to add Baltika to our speciality portfolio of brands and are confident that it will do well as a premium product in one of the most competitive beer markets in the world.”
