Eau de Lambert and Butler sprayed in pub

A Birmingham licensee is spraying the smell of cigarettes around her pub after drinkers complained they missed the smoky atmosphere.

Sarah Thornton sprays ‘Fag Ash’ aerosol in the Craven Arms in the city centre to recreate the smoking aroma.

People do not feel like they have been out unless they go home smelling of stale cigarettes
Licensee Sarah Thornton.

She said she needed to encourage smokers to come back to the pub.

"We've been trying to bring back the good old days and I've found that people do not feel like they have been out unless they go home smelling of stale cigarettes,” said Thornton.

"The atmosphere has changed quite a lot and the only thing I could think of to bring back the atmosphere and bring people back into the pub from the garden was to make it smell like it was.

"When people sit down the smell around them stops them from wanting to go back out for another cigarette."
