Punch links with online casino

Punch Taverns has launched a new gambling service for customers after linking up with one of the country’s leading online casino operators.

The scheme promoting the website, pub-casino.co.uk, operated by Cantor Gaming, is already appearing in selected Punch pubs.

Drinkers can obtain special casino promotion cards from behind the bar and gain access to their own online account with the betting company. The promotion offers a range of different games including roulette, blackjack and Caribbean poker.

Players can elect to play games simply for fun or enter the site to participate in cash betting.

It is understood that cash losses incurred by players are split three ways by Cantor, Punch and the lessee of each individual pub.

Cantor is offering a range of incentives including matchplay bonuses of up to £400 to attract players.

Punch says the initiative is not designed to encourage customers to bet online in licensed premises. “We are tapping into a leisure pursuit; it’s not about going to the pub to gamble,” said a Punch spokesperson.

“Customers will be able to pick up the promotion cards at our pubs and bet online at home,” he added.

Federation of Licensed Victuallers Associations chief executive Tony Payne said the casino games reflected the growth in services now available in pubs. “Licensees have to play to a developing market and pull customers in with new attractions,” he said.
