Jolly Farmers is most diversfied pub

The Jolly Farmers in Betchworth, Surrey has received the Best Diversification award at Countryside Alliance’s Best Rural Retailer awards ceremony.

Licensees Jon and Paula Briscoe turned part of the pub into a delicatessen and farm shop supporting over 100 local producers and suppliers.

Judges said they were "true champions of local food and great ambassadors for pub trade in these testing times".

“We are delighted to be nationally recognized for our concept and commitment to supporting local foods and suppliers," said Jon Briscoe.

"It was made all the more special after having been nominated by a customer and being judged without knowledge, we really did have no idea until our names were announced.”

The Briscoes received their award at a ceremony at the House of Lords and appeared on the Alan Titchmarsh National Treasure show on ITV.

The Best Rural Retailer competition is a celebration of our rural communities and their spirit, through the retailers who work so hard to keep them ticking.
