Licensed trade Labour backlash

The backlash against Labour following the anti-pub Budget continues with just 3% of the licensed trade willing to back them again.

As licensees flock to ban Chancellor Alistair Darling from their pubs following the 4p-a-pint duty rise on beer, an online MA poll reveals that support for Labour has reached an all-time low in the trade.

The UK Independence Party polled 65% of the votes with the Conservatives the most popular of the mainstream parties with 21% of the votes.

The poll attracted a record number of votes – 991 – almost three times the weekly average.

The full results to the question: Which political party do you think can do most to help the pub industry are as follows:

• Labour – 3%
• Conservatives – 21%
• Lib Dems – 3%
• Green Party – 1%
• UKIP – 65%
• Other – 7%

The MA online poll is open to everyone.
