Tobie Norris scoops Camra pub design award
The Tobie Norris, in Stamford, Lincolnshire has won the Conversion to Pub Use Award in the annual Campaign for Real Ale (Camra) Pub Design awards.
The site was most recently a private club and dates back to 1280. It was described by judges as “innately pubby” with open fires and old mix-and-match furniture.
“The overall feel is intimate and historic - no doubt that within a few years people will be claiming that it has been a pub for centuries," said one judge.
"Altogether a worthy and much-praised winner of the award."
The site is owned by Michael Thurlby who has converted several buildings into pubs in the area.
The Refurbishment Award went to the Weaver Hotel, at Weston Point, Runcorn, Cheshire and the New Build Award was scooped by the Black Horse Inn, Walcote, Leicestershire.
