Grand Union to expand

Grand Union, a company that has opened four eponymous pubs in London focused on a quality burger offer, is looking to double in size in the next 18 months.

Quality offer: menu features cheesburgers and lamb burgers

The company, founded by Adam Marshall and Adam Seward, opened its first site in Camden in April 2006 and has since expanded to Islington, Twickenham and Highgate. Marshall said: “We have branded all our pubs with the strapline, ‘Classic burger bars and cocktail lounges — it’s what gives our outlets a competitive edge at any time of the day’.

“Any Grand Union pub can be a diner, nightclub or anywhere in between. so we can appeal to the broadest range of customers.”

The Camden site is turning over around £27,000 per week compared to £18,000 before conversion.

Marshall added: “We are hoping to open another four sites in and around London over the next 18 months, focusing on the south and the west of the capital.

“I would hesitate to say we are bucking the trend in an increasingly difficult market, but our concept is proving to be consistently popular with a broad clientele.”

Two of Grand Union’s pubs are Scottish & Newcastle Pub Enterprises leases. Commercial manager Keith Boreham said: “The Grand Union, Camden was already a well-run pub before the refurbishment. [But it’s] now a vibrant venue that is busy throughout the day rather than just the evening. We’re looking forward to finding another site in the near future.”

The Grand Union menu offers a wide range of burgers. Price points sit in the highly competitive range of £4.95 to £6.95.
