Rack up sales: pubs offer sample sizes

Pub operators are offering customers the chance to sample different beers in third-pint glasses.

Beer holder can carry six different beers

Mitchells & Butlers is rolling out a tasting rack, featuring three third-pint glasses of beer from regional brewers, to its Ember Inns pubs. They cost £2.50 each and the ales available will change each month.

Meanwhile, Spirit Group pubs in London are the first to pioneer a Beautiful Beer “Colours of Beer” promotion.

The British Beer & Pub Association campaign group Beautiful Beer has developed a “beer holder” designed to contain six third-pints of different coloured beers. The holder costs £5.95 and features white, blonde, amber, red, brown and black beers.

Dan Robinson, Spirit Group operations director said: “Colours of Beer is an opportunity to do something different to attract new customers into beer. We jumped at the chance to trial it.”

Spirit predicts that the eight pubs taking part will sell around 700 beer holders. Posters, flyers, T-shirts and beer menus with tasting notes and food-matching tips.
