Pubs short-listed at 2009 Northern Hospitality Awards

The finalists for the 2009 Northern Hospitality Awards have been announced.

Short-listed for Best Pub are the Black Swan Hotel, Ravenstonedale, Cumbria; the Fisherman’s Retreat, Ramsbottom, Lancashire; Kirkstile Inn, Cockermouth, Cumbria; the Q Inn, Stalybridge, Cheshire; and Ye Old Sun Inn, Tadcaster, Yorkshire. In addition, Church Green in Lymm, Cheshire, and the Clog and Billycock in Blackburn, Lancashire, are both competing for Best Newcomer; while the Angel Inn at Hetton, North Yorkshire is up for Best Wine Offering.

The awards, which take place on March 30 at the Hilton, Manchester Deansgate, are split into eight categories - Best Restaurant, Best Newcomer, Best Hotel, Best Wine Offering, Best Bar, Best Pub, Best General Manager and Best Chef.

Thom Hetherington, managing director of Moorfield Media, the award’s organiser, said: “This year we have been inundated with entries as the Northern Hospitality Awards grow in popularity. The judges have had a tough time picking the finalists as the standard is so high, showing we have a lot of talent to be proud of in the north.”
