Dundee pubs urged to switch to plastic glasses

Pubs in Dundee are being urged to ditch glass in favour of polycarbonates to improve safety despite police admitting glass attacks are rare in the area.

Police want premises to use polycarbonates

Police have written to all 80 city centre licensees calling on them to trial plastic glasses and have made around 9,000 polycarbonate glasses available for free.

"Incidents of assault involving a glass in Dundee’s night time economy are fortunately rare," said chief superintendent Colin McCashey.

"But Dundee’s social scene is no different from any other city of its size and is, therefore, not immune to crimes of violence.

"That is why we and our partners work hard to promote and ensure a safe environment within the local night time economy. The availability of the polycarbonate glass is an excellent way in which to further enhance safety and I would encourage licence holders to take up this opportunity."
