Ribble Valley opens fourth pub

Chef Nigel Haworth’s Ribble Valley Inns is to open their first pub outside Lancashire.

Haworth: first pub outside Lancashire

The Bull at Broughton, North Yorkshire, is part of the Broughton estate and the fourth site for the company.

It will open in June following a £300,000 refurbishment. The pub is owned by the Broughton Hall Estate and Ribble Valley Inns has taken a 15 year lease with them.

The company’s menu philosophy is to offer traditional traditional dishes with a contemporary twist, featuring ingredients from local food heroes.

Haworth founded Ribble Valley Inns four years ago with Craig Bancroft. The pair are also co-proprietors of the Michelin-starred Northcote Manor.

Other pub sites include the Three Fishes at Mitton, the Highwayman near Kirkby Lonsdale and the Clog & Billycock, Pleasington, which opened in September 2008 following a £1.3m refit.

Haworth said: “So many of the North’s talented produces are only a stone’s throw from Broughton Hall, including many of Yorkshire’s legendary cheesemakers. I’m already talking to as many producers as I can, people like Pasture Lane asparagus, Pickering’s watercress, Makin’s strawberries and Fortune’s kippers.

"There are wonderful ingredients and I can’t wait to start developing dishes with the head chef and kitchen brigade.”

Haworth and Bancroft have plans for more sites. A spokeswoman said: “We will ensure we open each one successfully and make sure we maintain standards and quality at each Ribble Valley Inn consistently, it will be a small group of unique quality properties offering regional food.”
