Jackson remembered on pub jukeboxes
The public’s appetite for re-living Michael Jackson’s hits since his death has led to a surge in plays on pub jukeboxes.
Soundnet, which has 10,000 digital jukeboxes in pubs across the country, said the star’s songs accounted for 20 of the top 100 play on its systems since the weekend.
Lee Taylor, music programming manager at Soundnet, said: “The trend is getting stronger and stronger and we wanted to ensure that people can find the Michael Jackson tracks on the jukeboxes quickly by creating a special category with our new playlist.
“This will now appear on the front screen of the jukebox in order to maximise plays and income.”
Soundnet’s Jackson playlist has been downloaded for free to its UK jukeboxes. A CD update is set to follow this week.
“Michael Jackson was a legendary artist and his sad death has made people realise just what a wealth of wonderful music he created. Our playlist will allow UK jukeboxes to recognise this and react promptly,” added Soundnet’s Simon Davis.
