M&B pub fined over dirty kitchen
A Mitchells & Butlers (M&B) pub in South Wales has been fined £7,800 after kitchen equipment was found covered in dirt and dried blood.
M&B: has put new team in place at outlet
Environmental Health Officers visited the Crow's Nest in Cwmbran last August and found the kitchen in a filthy condition with no cleaning fluid to disinfect the preparation surfaces.
New members of staff had been left unsupervised to prepare food although they had not completed their food hygiene training.
The pub’s management voluntarily closed the kitchen to undertake a deep-clean of the premises.
M&B pleaded guilty to four charges at Abergavenny magistrates court on 16 June. It was fined £7,800 and ordered to pay the council's costs of £4,131 and a £15 victim surcharge.
Torfaen council said the pub had been warned about its hygiene before. "The past history and poor conditions found therefore resulted in the court case. However, we wish to recognise that Mitchells and Butlers Retail have worked positively with our officers throughout their investigation and to ensure that high standards are being maintained at all times."
M&B said: "These incidents occurred over 10 months ago and we acted quickly to address them.
"We also put in place a new, highly experienced team, including a new pub manager, a new deputy manager and a new area manager, and all staff undertook additional food hygiene training."
