MA launches Freehouse 500 pub club

An exclusive club of 500 freehouse licensees has been formed by the Morning Advertiser to offer advice and business-building tips across the sector.

Freehouse 500: seminar planned

Freehouse 500, which is sponsored by San Miguel, Bulmers and Coca-Cola Enterprises, kicks off with a day-long seminar at Claridge’s in London’s Mayfair on Tuesday 6 October.

Sidney Phillips managing director Robin Mence will talk about the prospects for the freehouse market in the coming year. Carlsberg will discuss helping pubs make savings and Katy Moses of him! will examine consumer trends.

Chris Heard, partner at Marlborough Leisure, will give tips on raising finance for a second site.

An insight into marketing — good and bad — will be provided by Anita Woods, managing director of William Murray Communications.

Under the title “My Big Idea”, three top freehouse operators will talk about their business innovations.

A range of suggestions — from customer loyalty schemes to family fun days — will be put forward by licensees Jono Clark, Phil Davison and Tim Foster.

A guide to the guidebooks will be provided by the editors of The Good Food Guide and Alastair Sawday’s Pubs & Inns guide. James Nye of Brancaster Beer Company will discuss the challenges and benefits of brewing your own beer, while Kevin Charity, founder of Bulldog Pub Company, will give advice on accommodation.

MA editor Paul Charity said: “Freehouse 500 is an excellent opportunity for freehold pub operators to pick up valuable advice on growing their businesses and making more money.”

The Morning Advertiser has written to Freehouse 500 members, who can book up to two places by calling 01293 610323 or email stephanie.smallwood@william-reed.co.uk
