Licensees launch pub grub mail-order business

Home-made Yorkshire pub grub is making its way to all corners of the UK and beyond, thanks to the entrepreneurial drive of licensees Ross and Anita Walker.

Food entrepreneurs: licensees Ross and Anita Walker

They’ve set up their own company, Yorkshire Pub Foods, to market home-made produce cooked at the Dog & Gun, Malsis, West Yorkshire.

They invested in a smokehouse unit and vacuum packer last year to process and sell their goods in the pub, but have now made their foods available to buy via mail order online.

Consignments of smoked fish, meats and cheese, plus preserves, chutneys and seasonal puddings are now being bought up by customers.

The couple have run the Timothy Taylor’s Brewery tenancy for seven years, building up a thriving food-led business that now turns over in excess of £650,000 per year.

“We are always looking for new avenues of revenue because you can only do so much within the four walls of the pub itself,” explained Anita.

A Christmas hamper has been added to the list of produce available.
