London brewer celebrates tenth anniversary
London brewer Fuller, Smith and Turner has marked the tenth anniversary of the Fuller’s Fine Ale Club with a tasting event at the Griffin Brewery in Chiswick.
The event on 2 December was by invitation only and attended by Fuller’s directors, beer writers and 25 club members and guests.
“When we first came up with the idea of a Fuller’s Fine Ale Club, the beer landscape in this country was completely different,” said managing director John Roberts. “Customers were far more likely to be talking about different varieties of grape than hops or malt.
Fuller’s Brewer’s Reserve No.1, which was matured for 500 days in whisky barrels was particularly popular at the tasting.
“When it was launched last year, it caused a real stir with people everywhere commenting knowledgeably on its amazing flavours and aromas,” said head brewer John Keeling. “I couldn’t imagine that happening 10 years ago.”
The club began in 1999, gathering 3,000 members in its first year. There are now 25,000 members across England who receive a quarterly magazine and other benefits.
