Turner: VAT will have to reach 22%

Fuller's chairman Michael Turner says the state of public finances means VAT will have to rise to 22%.

Turner: fears VAT rises are due

He warned that the rise from 15% to 17.5% next month would not be the last.

In an interview with the Financial Times, Turner said: "I think we will have another couple of rises sadly. It is all quite worrying. I think it would have to go to 22 per cent. It is the only way I can see they can raise sufficient funds.

He said such a rise "won't disadvantage the pub sector against anyone else".

"But we have had to keep up with the minimum wage and smoking ban. It's a lot to deal with."
