Brumby takes non-exec role at Drake & Morgan
Mark Brumby, the high-profile leisure analyst at Astaire, has joined Drake & Morgan as a non-executive director.
Brumby: new role at Drake & Morgan
He has joined co-founders Jillian MacLean, managing director, and John Connell, chairman, at the group, which has two sites — the Refinery at Bankside and the Parlour at Canary Wharf – with a third in development — the Anthropologist at Gresham Street, which is scheduled to open in April.
Brumby said: “It’s no secret, it’s a great business and I think it has a great future.”
The leisure analyst is also an investor in the business, having invested in the Drake & Morgan format before the first site opened two years ago.
The non-executive role will see Brumby, who recently revealed plans to step down at Astaire to form his own leisure consultancy, spend one or two days a month with the company.
MacLean and Connell plan to build a 10-strong business, with food sales accounting for about 30% of the sales mix.
MacLean is a former operations director at Novus Leisure and has also worked at Mitchells & Butlers, Spirit Group and Tattershall Castle, while Connell is something of a serial entrepreneur having founded the Lewis & Clarke and Thomas & Carter chains in partnership with Steve Wilkins.
