200 jobs could go at Waverley TBS

Around 200 jobs could be axed at drinks wholesaler Waverley TBS as part of a restructuring process.

WaverleyTBS: tough times in the on-trade

WaverleyTBS announced plans to centralise its telesales and support functions to better support the recent sales force restructure, which led to the loss of 65 jobs in the summer, and "reflect the rapidly changing marketplace".

"These proposals have been made in response to an ongoing review of the WTBS business and against the backdrop of economically challenging conditions," said WaverleyTBS managing director Jonathan Townsend.

"Every effort will be made to seek alternative employment for those affected, including outplacement support, re-training and/or redeployment where suitable alternative employment exists."

He added: "These have been difficult decisions to make and none of them have been entered into lightly.

"The outcome of the review in no way reflects on the performance of affected colleagues who have done an excellent job over the last few years in a very challenging market.

“It is well documented that the drinks sector continues to face some considerable challenges and our business has to evolve to remain sustainable and competitive.”

Affected employees will enter a period of consultation from today.
