No date set for GMB pub strike ballot
No date has yet been set for the GMB’s ballot on industrial action by tied pub tenants.
GMB: wants industrial action over beer prices and rent levels
The GMB is proposing industrial action which would include tenants switching off Brulines equipment, followed by stopping buying beer from pubcos.
The trade union had hoped to run the ballot this month and commence industrial action in April but that time-frame now looks unlikely as the GMB considers the fall-out of the recent ballot of British Airways (BA) cabin crew by Unite.
The initial ballot of BA crew by Unite was ruled “illegal” by the High Court because of irregularities in the way it had been conducted. BA claimed that 1,000 staff who had already opted to take redundancy had been included in the ballot.
The GMB is expecting a challenge from the pubcos on any ballot and wants to make sure it is watertight.
Meanwhile, the GMB’s Westminster protest will go ahead next Tuesday and a rallying call has gone out to members urging them to contact local papers and radio stations to maximise publicity.
