Rosé sales up 21% at pubs

Rosé sales jumped more than 21% in value in the on-trade in the last year, according to new research from the Wine and Spirit Trade Association (WSTA).

Rosé: sales up in June

Figures published today show rosé sales in the pubs, bars and restaurants are up by 21.4% in value and 18.4% in volume in the year to May. Rosé sales in shops have risen by 9.2% in value and 7.6% in volume in the same period.

However, the off-trade is the biggest winner overall with champagne and sparkling wine up 6.8% in volume and 11.4% in value and cider up 9.9% in volume and 13.4% in value.

Figures for bars, clubs and restaurants show that only wine (up 0.9% in volume and 1.3% in value) and cider (up 3% in value) have achieved any real growth in value.

“Given the fact that sales of other wines in bars, clubs and restaurants are down over the course of the past year the big rise in rosé is all the more striking,” said WSTA chief executive Jeremy Beadles. “No doubt the recent good weather will have continued to boost its popularity.
