Pub operator Whitbread Pub Partnerships is trialling a new food concept called Giant's Feast in the King's Arms in Plymouth.
The pub reopened last month after being refurbished and is the first Pub Partnerships pub to offer the new meals.
The menu aims to offer value for money and is marketed as "big portions of great pub food". The pricing is intended to encourage people who would not normally eat out in pubs to choose to have a meal at the King's Arms.
The concept will be dependent upon the position of the pub. It has been successful in Plymouth because the King's Arms is on a well-known quay in the town.
Positioning in a busy area is important as the success of the value-for-money concept is dependent on a strong promotional campaign in the local area.
Darryl Pannell, marketing development manager for the area has been involved in setting up the new menu concept. He said: "We are very excited about this new menu, which we can now offer to other Pub Partnerships pubs across the country. Obviously there is some investment needed in terms of training the staff, but working in partnership with our lessees we are able to minimise this cost."
