A new bar 38 has just opened in Newcastle - but this latest addition to the group spells a step in a different direction for the chain.
It is hoped that the bar, which boasts a lounge area, a chill out egg shaped room, a dining section and the capacity for 650 people, will appeal to the "afternoon entrepreneur" and the "evening socialite".
"The opening in Newcastle represents the evolution of the brand," a spokeswoman for the company said. "All previous Bar 38s will stay as they are but any new builds from this point forward will be of the new contemporary design," she added.
An abstract sculpture and portholes have been integrated into the design to reflect the city's traditional shipbuilding industry.
Bruce Corser who was involved in the design of the bar said: "We have tried to create a space where stylish people can have a number of different experiences, whether it be partying with friends, chilling out and chatting or sampling the menu."
A selection of food will also be available and the choice includes Mediterranean, North African and Asian dishes, the company said.
