Popular television programme Ready Steady Cook has been adapted into part of a new comprehensive food course for Scottish and Newcastle (S&N) Retail staff.
The course is innovative, not only for its adaptation of daytime television, but also because it will be taken by area business managers, regional operations directors, marketing staff and stock controllers as well as kitchen staff.
Everyone will have to go on a broad 'Focus on Food' course, which involves an interactive S&N version of Ready Steady Cook, where attendees have to prepare a recipe in five minutes, as well as more ordinary lessons in basic food hygiene, food preparation, cooking and presentation and understanding margins and stock control.
Nick Moore, food development director for S&N, said: "Food is more important in pub retailing than it has ever been. Our commitment to food retailing is evident in the requirement for all involved, even those sitting behind desks in head office, to undertake food training. It helps everyone to appreciate what is and what is not possible within the confines of the job and boosts chefs' morale, as people are attempting to understand their side of the business."
