Australian wine company Southcorp Wines and Matthew Clark, the largest supplier to the UK pub market, have embarked on a joint on-trade initiative to promote wines from Down Under.

The deal will see Matthew Clark become the sole representative of Southcorp's premium brand portfolio for the UK on-trade through its Grants of St James's Wines and wholesale divisions.

Premium wines such as Lindemans, Rosemount Estate, Penfolds and Seaview will be promoted as part of Matthew Clark Wholesale's wine list alongside Southcorp's existing regional wines Wynns Coonawarra Estate, Seppelt and James Herrick.

The agreement comes just months after Southcorp Wines merged with fellow Australian winery, Rosemount Estates, to create Australia's largest premium wine producer and the country's largest exporter of wines.

Mario Micheli, president of Southcorp Europe commented: "We have an opportunity to achieve a wider and more effective market reach through the concentrated effort of the two companies."

Mr Micheli added that the joint on-trade push will help Southcorp replicate its success in the take-home sector, where it boasts three brands in the top six. Peter Aitkens, chief executive of Matthew Clark added: "Australian wine sales are booming and the Southcorp portfolio features the very best premium wines and Australia's strongest brands."
