A couple from Scotland have named their first baby after their favourite malt whisky.
Proud parents Alan and Valerie Paterson from Irvine in Ayrshire, named their son Macallan, after Valerie developed a taste for the whisky during her pregnancy.
Valerie said: "I loved the taste. I was eight months pregnant at the time and instantly thought the name would be great for a boy.
"Alan was all for it when I told him the whisky's name, Macallan, stood for 'the son of Allan'."
The couple plan a christening for Macallan and say guests will wet the child's head with a glass or two of his namesake.
And bosses at the whisky firm have decide to present the youngster with six bottles of 18-year-old Macallan when he turns 18 - a gift which is likely to be worth almost £800.
Macallan's marketing manager David Robertson said: "I was delighted to learn of their choice of name and expect that, like our product, Macallan will mature into a well-rounded and truly unique individual."
The couple say they now plan to name any other children they have after more of their favourite malt whiskies.
