A liqueur created by Sir Walter Raleigh, a vodka with a scorpion in the bottle and a range of competitively priced shooter concepts are just some of the products being unleashed by Hayman Distillers.
Up until now, the Essex-based company has concentrated on distilling own-label spirits for the take-home sector but has turned its attentions to the on-trade with a spirit portfolio that can best be described as eclectic.
Sir Walt's (pictured), available at 40 or 65 per cent ABV, claims to be a faithful recreation of an original recipe containing 30 herbs, spices and essential oils that Sir Walter Raleigh is said to havecreated while imprisoned in the Tower of London.
The original recipe was thought to have been lost, but Hayman Distillers recently rediscovered it and is now targeting the hedonistic absinthe market.
A number of pub companies have reportedly expressed interest in Skorppio Vodka, a triple distilled vodka that boasts a real scorpion in the bottom of the bottle. Before they are submerged in the spirit, the scorpions are cooked for several minutes to remove the poison.
An upmarket shooter range, Bullet, has also been developed for the pleasure-seeking shots sector.
Other products on offer include a range of tequilas, a gin liqueur and a Pimm's style product called Hayman's No 1.
