real down at Crown One person who won't be entering our "Win a celebrity barmaid" competition is Surrey licensee Paul Davies of the Crown at Westcott, near Dorking. "Why should I? I've got one already my wife," says Paul. His wife (stage name Jane Slaughter) plays Tracey in EastEnders and has done so for 17 years. For non-afiçionados of the soap, Tracey works behind the bar of the Queen Vic and also runs the flower stall in the market. Paul says he is used to seeing "just an elbow, shoulder or the back of her head" when the big story lines are around and Peggy is screaming: "Look after the bar, Tracey I'm off to have a word with that Pauline Fowler". With all those years of training behind the bar at the Vic it would seem natural that Jane would prove a valuable asset to have around, particularly when the Crown is busy. However, Paul says with a chuckle: "She does it quite reluctantly." The Crown's regulars have got accustomed to having an actress around the place and Paul says they don't really pester Jane except when tension is running high in Albert Square. "They all wanted to know who shot Phil," he explains. Paul is adamant that he won't be entering the MA/Britvic competition, which offers the winning licensee the services of Emmerdale's Louise Appleton (actress Emily Symons, seen left) to help boost sales for one night. "It might seem that I'm being rather greedy, having two celebrity barmaids." For licensees who haven't entered yet, just tell us why you would want a visit from Emily and what special plans you would make to boost sales. You have until next Thursday (31 October) to enter. Write to Morning Advertiser, William Reed Publishing, Broadfield Park, Crawley, West Sussex RH11 9RT, or fax: 01293 846544.
