Six Continents, currently working flat-out towards the demerger of its pub retail and hotels divisions some time next spring, is likely to offload the final strand of its non-core business, Britvic, reports suggested this week. The soft drinks subsidiary contributes £30m a year to profits and is worth about £500m, so is thought robust enough to force minority shareholder PepsiCo into a bidding war. Osmond bid Tycoon Hugh Osmond, best known recently for launching the Punch pubs business, is back in the corporate marketplace with a bid for the UK arm of CenterParcs. The multimillionaire is believed to have offered £460m for the holiday resorts, now in French hands but formerly owned by Scottish & Newcastle. Carlsberg stake Carlsberg, now largely free from the trading constrictions of its charitable status in Denmark, is back on the acquisitions trail with the purchase of a majority, two-thirds stake in Bulgarian brewer Pirinsko Pivo. It now controls about a fifth of the local beer market in the east European state.
