Lovers of the I'm Alan Partridge TV series will no doubt be aware that some people in Norfolk are up in arms over the way he portrays them as carrot crunchers. With that in mind, Snifter is intrigued to see that Devizes brewer Wadworth is sponsoring The Yokels. Evidently, the trio is one of Wiltshire's longest-establishedand best-loved musical acts and probably the county's answer to Somerset's Adge Cutler and the Wurzels, who are immortalised by "hits" such as I'm a Cider Drinker and I've got a Brand New Combine Harvester. The Yokels have recorded a version of The Troggs' 1960s hitA Girl Like You but with new words and renamed Marry Me. It is being put together to support the BBC Children in Need appeal and Wadworth has paid for the first 500 CDs to be made. In turn, the band will be plugging Wadworth by wearing badges with messages like "I'm a 6X maniac" and "It's 6Xtra Special". Snifter can only hope thatone of his favourite tipples isn't seen as only suitable for country bumpkins.
