A man has been jailed for two years for glassing a stranger in a city-centre bar. Allan Eadie, 25, from Maryhill, Strathclyde, was sentenced for an attack which left student Craig Campbell scarred for life. Eadie was jailed just weeks after a "not proven" verdict on a double attempted murder charge at the High Court in Paisley, Strathclyde. It was alleged Eadie stabbed a man and woman after an argument at The Shack nightclub in Glasgow. Drink ban for Croydon Street drinking could be banned in Croydon town centre if proposals are accepted. The London Borough of Croydon's licensing committee has met to consider introducing a ban after a survey of residents showed there were major concerns about crime and disorder in the area. The plan will allow police to issue a fixed penalty notice to anybody caught drinking outside or with a glass. Police have reported a 9% increase in incidents or disorderly behaviour and a 19% rise in assaults from April to November 2002, compared to the same time the year before. The area around the High Street, Wellesley Road and George Street were highlighted as areas of particular concern. Investigators seized more than 10 million smuggled cigarettes in England and Scotland in the last two weeks. Five men from Glasgow were arrested in the operation which is estimated to have saved the Treasury around £1.8m. The majority of the illegal tobacco was seized in Southamp-ton, where 9.3 million cigarettes were discovered. A further 65,000 were recovered from two vessels berthed in the River Tay. The total haul had a street value of £2.25m. It comes after a million cigarettes were discovered in a Dutch-registered lorry carrying biscuits at Kilwinning, Ayrshire. Murder trial date is set The trial of three men accused of shooting a man dead in a pub has been set for July. Lee Cassidy, 26, of no fixed abode, Peter Heron, 29, of no fixed abode and James Murphy, also 29, of Grosvenor Road, Wavertree, appeared at Liverpool Crown Court last Wednesday charged with murdering Ray Craven in the Thatched House pub in Wavertree. Quiz man in host assault TV quiz loser Billy King, who gambled away prizes including an £8,000 car and Hawaiian holiday on Ant and Dec's Saturday night takeaway show, has lost again after being found guilty of assaulting a pub landlord. King, 41, of Castle Street, Conwy, denied head-butting a pub manager last December, but was found guilty of common assault after a trial at Llandudno Magistrates Court and was bailed for pre-sentence reports. Last week, the 41-year-old quiz fanatic, of Castle Street, Conwy, said he was suing Granada TV after he walked away with the toilet roll booby prize on Ant and Dec's hit show. Michael Kent, deputy manager of the Washington pub at Llandudno, told the court how King had been arguing with a woman and had been abusive. He asked King to go and stand by a bar. "He said you don't know who I am and head-butted me," alleged Kent, who suffered a cut lip as a result.
