Slinky launch Blue Nun has postponed the launch of its new RTD because of continued fears over the state of the RTD market. The wine-based Slinky was due to go on sale in June. But Langguth, the brand's German owner, has delayed the launch until January at the earliest because of what it sees as the ailing health of the RTD sector. Plans to launch the 5.5% abv drink were announced back in April, but since then, growth in the RTD market has slowed a situation not helped by the 4p duty increase on premium packaged spirits announced in the Budget. Langguth's marketing director Armin Wagner admitted that the timing of the Blue Nun launch was premature. "At present, the RTD category is in a difficult position and we were not keen to launch into it. We want things to settle down and then make a fresh approach in the new year," he said. Wagner denied that concern about competition from similar wine-based RTDs including the recently launched Coomera Coast from Bacardi-Martini and Bliss from Scottish Courage was behind its decision to postpone Slinky's launch.
