Shadow Home Secretary Oliver Letwin has confirmed he will speak at the National Pubwatch Conference on 4 November. Organisers of the all-day event, which aims to share ideas on cutting crime and disorder in licensed premises, said the Government's Trade & Industry minister Gerry Sutcliffe, a vocal supporter of National Pubwatch in the House of Commons, will also speak, together with the Portman Group's Jean Coussins. National Pubwatch chairman Raoul DeVaux said: "It shows how far Pubwatch has come. We've got Government ministers coming to the meeting so they obviously see it as an important thing." The conference is open torepresentatives of local Pubwatch schemes, the police, Government and legal groups. Participants can attend two of four workshops at the conference. The topics will be: conflict management; risk assessments; sharing information and crime anddisorder partnerships with local government. Dr Martin Rawlings from the British Beer & Pub Association will also be speaking. Representatives from theAssociation of Chief Police Officers have yet to confirm.
