Bite horror alleged
A man has been accused with biting another man's nose off during a fight outside a South Wales pub. Doctors attempted emergency reconstructive surgery on 30-year-old Simon Cook but told him he could be scarred for life. Cook had been taken to hospital after a brawl outside the Roof in Bridgend town centre last Monday. Dean Andrews, 27, appeared at Bridgend Magistrates' Court and denied causing grievous bodily harm with intent. He will appear before Cardiff Crown Court at a later date. Pub opens after crash Landlords managed to re-open their pub just hours after a car crashed into it. A silver Mini Cooper smashed through a 3ft boundary wall at the Pennycomequick in Plymouth, Devon, sending debris crashing through a large window at the pub, just before 4am last Tuesday. Licensees Dennis Chivers and Avril Crawford rushed outside to find the car on its roof. The pub was closed at lunchtime but the hosts managed to clean up in time to open that evening. "It's a good job we have the wall there," Chivers said. "If they had gone straight into the pub it would have been far more serious." A 22 year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of aggravated vehicle taking, and bailed to return on 6 November. Trio attack father at inn A father was attacked as he sat with his family outside a Huddersfield pub. The man was outside the White Hart in the town centre at around 5pm last Thursday when three men walked past. One said something to the man then all three started kicking his legs and body. Staff from nearby shops heard his calls for help and phoned the police, but the attackers fled. Two of the men are black, in their early 20s and about 6ft tall. The third is white with short, brown hair and was wearing a white T-shirt and jeans. Anyone with information is urged to contact Huddersfield Police on 01484 436659. Warning after rapes Police in Birmingham are warning female pub and club-goers to be extra vigilant after two women were raped in consecutive weeks in the city centre. Officers suspect both offences were committed by the same man who is black and described as his early 20s on a Saturday or in the early hours of Sunday. In the first attack, a 25-year-old woman was set upon as she walked home after an evening out along Thimblemill Road just before 4am on 14 September. She was dragged screaming into the nearby wooded area of Thimblemill Recreation Ground, where she was raped. At around 2am on 21 September a 22-year-old woman was targeted as she walked along Sherborne Street, near Broad Street. The man robbed her at knife-point then raped her. Police are studying CCTV footage and have enlisted two teams of detectives to work on the investigation. A police spokesman said: "We are asking [women] to be vigilant about their personal safety, particularly if they are on a night out. They should not be alone and should take taxis rather than walk." Nail bomb in gang war A nail bomb was thrown into a crowded Liverpool pub at around 8.30pm on Saturday, in what police believe was a gang-related incident. Officers said it was a miracle customers at the crowded Dickie Lewis's in Kirkdale were not killed as the device failed to explode. The bomb contained hundreds of nails. Experts told Merseyside Police it could have easily killed if it had exploded. Detectives have linked the incident with a car bomb in the city centre on 20 September.
