Robert Maxwell has been named Chef & Brewer chef of the year after winning a cook off in the grand final of the national competition.
More than 100 chefs from across the country have taken part in the competition which set them the task of creating a starter, main course and fish course with one of the dishes having a French theme.
Some of the French-inspired dishes cooked throughout the competition included poisson et frites a la mushy peas and coquilles saint Jacques a la Parisienne.
Winner Robert, who works at Chiltern Hundreds in Penenden Heath, Maidstone, cooked Mediterranean fillet of tuna nicoise.
"Every year I am more and more impressed with the standard of our chefs," said Bob Ivell, chairman of Scottish & Newcastle (S&N) Retail which owns Chef & Brewer.
"They are inventive, creative and more importantly, enthusiastic about cooking. The standard of these chefs is what sets Chef & Brewer apart from run of the mill pub food - real food prepared by individuals using fresh ingredients."
Last week Chef & Brewer, along with S&N Retail's other brands was bought by Spirit Group. Spirit is said to be very impressed with the Chef & Brewer's success as a food-led pub brand.
