Chef fined for knife attack on licensee

A pub chef has been ordered to pay £500 in compensation after injuring his manager with a knife. Pablo Aguilera, 45, now living in Park Mount Road, Kirkstall, Leeds, admitted causing actual bodily harm to Murray Montgomery. He claimed the injury was not intentional but an accident due to his recklessness. As well as paying Montgomery the compensation, Aguilera must also pay £350 costs and carry out 120 hours community punishment. Isleworth Crown Court heard that Montgomery, manager of the London Apprentice in Isleworth, London, went to speak to Aguilera who was asleep upstairs. The manager suspected that Aguilera had thrown clothes from a washer-dryer out of the window because he had been kept awake. Peter Briegel, prosecuting, said: "[Montgomery] knocked on his door twice and received no response until suddenly the door was opened and the defendant came at him with a yellow-handled cook's knife in his hand." A combination of Aguilera lunging at Montgomery and Montgomery trying to knock the knife away led to "a nasty gash" to his thumb, which had to be stitched, the court heard. Man awaits sentence for killing doorman A passenger in a car, which ran over and killed a pub doorman in Leicester, has appeared in court for manslaughter. Sirdool Singh Lidar, of no fixed address, admitted manslaughter of Kulwinder Singh Soor, 31 who died outside the Dove pub in Downing Drive in February 1998. Leicester Crown Court heard how Sirdool Singh Lidar and his brother, Narinder Singh Lidar had been involved in a feud with Kulwinder Singh Soor. The pub doorman was leaning into Narinder Singh Lidar's Land Rover when the vehicle drove off at speed. The court heard how Sirdool Singh Lidar had been a passenger in the car and encouraged his brother to drive faster. Soor was carried along by the vehicle before he fell out and was run over. Narinder Singh Lidar was convicted of manslaughter and jailed for five years in December 1998. Sirdool Singh Lidar fled the UK after the incident but was caught by police when he returned to Britain last December. He will be sentenced at Leicester Crown Court on 31 March. Pair stabbed in Glasgow nightclub A weightlifter and an apprentice joiner required hospital treatment after being stabbed in a Glasgow nightclub. The High Court in Glasgow heard how Cameron Robb, 24, and Christopher Ross, 18, were slashed by 21-year-old Stephen Kerr during a visit to the city's Destiny nightclub in April 2002. Kerr, who attacked the men whilst on bail from Glasgow sheriff court and district court, was remanded in custody and will be sentenced on 30 March. Robb required four stitches and was forced to abandon his place at the ScottishPower weightlifting championships. Ross, an apprentice joiner was stabbed four times and needed 13 stitches. The court heard how an argument had broken out after Ross accused Kerr of groping his girlfriend. Kerr, whose address was given as Barlinnie Prison, had admitted stabbing both men. Coroner links host's death to medicine A licensee in Trawden, Lancashire, died after a fatal allergic reaction to his medication for blood pressure, an inquest has heard. Harry Greenwood, 52, of the Sun Inn died last June following a series of mystery health problems. Burnley Coroners Court heard how the pub landlord's tongue and face had swollen up on a number of occasions. Doctors prescribed Greenwood ­ who suffered from high blood pressure and arthritis ­ steroids to treat the attacks. Greenwood's partner, Danella Cordingly told the court how she called an ambulance in June 2003 after discovering her husband had suffered a serious attack. He later died. A post mortem examination found that he died from asphyxiation due to the swelling of his tongue and airway. Dr Richard Pumphrey, a consultant immunologist at St Mary's Hospital, Manchester, said the reactions were a common side effect of taking ACE inhibitors for high blood pressure. Coroner Richard Taylor recorded a verdict of death by misadventure.
