A charity bungee jump in a pub car park has been abandoned after safety fears.

The jump was being held to raise money for the Children's Heart Foundation at the Spinning Wheel in Swansea, Wales.

Jo Moss, who manages the pub with her partner Robert Rees, cancelled the jump after a visit from a Swansea Council health and safety officer.

Two years ago 22-year old Christopher Thomas died while bungee jumping during a charity event in the Old Barn Inn's pub car park in Swansea.

As a result, the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents advised all licensees to check the safety record of any companies using their property for such events and to ensure that they have insurance so that they cannot be taken to court for negligence.

Miss Moss said: "We were going to have it in the car park but health and safety officers told us it would be a distraction for drivers. They came up to the pub and told us we were not allowed to go ahead with it."

Current legislation requires bungee ropes to be safety tested by companies every six months, regardless of the number of times they have been used.
