A Shropshire publican banned for drink driving is offering free soft drinks to designated motorists.

Andy Marshall, of the Horseshoe Inn at Dorrington, near Shrewsbury, is making the gesture after attending a drink-drive rehabilitation course.

"I want to thank drivers for their responsibility by giving them free drinks and to reinforce the message to others as I realise how drinking and driving affects people's lives," said the licensee.

"I will give free lemonade or squash to anyone who is good enough to drive their mates around."

Mr Marshall was handed a two year driving ban by Shrewsbury magistrates after he was stopped by police and found to be more than twice over the legal limit.

The ban was reduced to 18 months after he attended a rehabilitation course run by Telford Training Consultants (TTC 2000).

TTC 2000 claims it is now the largest provider of education courses in the UK with more than 40 trainers who will educate 9,000 drivers this year.
