Twenty-two pubs have been highlighted in the Good Pub Guide 2005 for their focus on local sourcing. We look at the guide's roll of honour of local heroes Punch Bowl ­ Crosthwaite, Cumbria Meat is local and organic and other produce is local where possible and often organic. Bear ­ Alderwasley, Derbyshire Uses ingredients from local farms and growers. Museum ­ Farnham, Dorset Uses local and organic produce and makes its own bread, jams, chutneys and marmalades. Dartmoor Inn ­ Lydford, Devon Has a comprehensive list of local suppliers for meat, vegetables, fish, cheese, soft fruit and honey. Start Bay ­ Torcross, Devon Local fishermen work off the beach right in front of the pub and deliver all kinds of fish. A local crabber drops the crabs at the back door, and the landlord enjoys catching plaice, scallops, and bass. New Inn ­ Shalfleet, Isle of Wight Specialises in fresh local fish with up to 12 different fresh fish dishes a day ­ lovely shellfish. Peat Spade ­ Longstock, Hampshire Sensibly short menu using local (and often organic) produce. Duke of Cambridge ­ North London London's first organic pub has an excellent range of impeccably-sourced drinks and food. Applecross Inn ­ Applecross, Scotland Stunning location with super-fresh seafood, plus most of the other ingredients it uses are local. Griffin ­ Felinfach, Wales Owners are proud of never sourcing food that's more than 15 miles away.
