Snifter was delighted to have been given the opportunity to catch some rays and top up his tan this week.

But before readers jump to the conclusion that this was on a lavish press trip sponsored by a wealthy drinks supplier, let's put the record straight.

It was in fact in Trafalgar Square where the Foster's brigade chose to set up a mini-Bondi Beach yesterday to mark Australia Day. Tinny in hand, Snifter mingled with a few hundred Antipodeans as well as a number of "honourary" Aussies to celebrate the occasion.

Former England cricketer, Phil Tufnell and Annalise Braakensiek, ex-Home & Away actress and Play your Cards Right croupier, displayed their dexterity during a charity cricket match to support the Tsunami appeal.

Knowing in advance that Scottish Courage had arranged to fill the famous landmark with sand and deck chairs we thought it only proper to celebrate a truly British tradition at the same time ­ making sandcastles with a bucket and spade. The finished castle might not have rivalled the grandeur of nearby Buckingham Palace but our efforts were definitely appreciated by the tourists, and the pigeons.
