Suffolk brewer Adnams has paid for a Cask Marque beer quality audit for around 30 traditional Mitchells & Butlers pubs in London.

Adnams paid for inspectors from the beer-quality-monitoring body to visit more than 60% of pubs from M&B's 54-strong Nicholsons division. Almost the entire Nicholsons estate has now won Cask Marque accreditation.

Adnams' sponsorship aims to boost cask ale sales by improving the quality of beer served in pubs. Recent research from the British Beer & Pub Association found pubs that invested in cellar management and beer dispense saw volume sales increase by an average of 3%.

Nicholsons hosts have pointed to the benefits of the partnership between the pub operator and Adnams.

Ted Pole, licensee of the Bear & Staff in Leicester Square, said: 'The link between Nicholsons and Adnams means that my customers can be confident that their pint of cask beer will be served at the very best quality, every time.

'Good beer and good service are key elements to building a loyal customer base.

Nicholsons' marketing manager Sarah Glover said: 'To have the support of a brewer such as Adnams, which has an excellent reputation for producing the highest quality beer, is recognition of our commitment to the service and trad- itions of cask beer.
