Loo of Year gongs

JD Wetherspoon has scooped a number of gongs in the Loo of the Year Awards 2005.

The awards, which are organised by the British Toilet Association, aim to encourage the highest possible standards in all types of 'away from home' or public toilets.

JDW was named as the UK trophy winner in the corporate provider sector of the awards.

The Hengler's Circus in Glasgow, was recognised for its accessibility to people with disabilities by being selected as the Scottish winner in the accessible toilets award.

A Wetherspoon pub in England (the Penderels Oak, London), Scotland (the Alexander Bain, Wick) and Wales (the Ernest Willows, Cardiff) scooped the national category award in the Pubs and Wine Bars section for their respective country.

The company was one of just 11 across the UK to be listed in the Champions League for having more than 10 entries and five or more five-star awards.

JDW chief executive John Hutson said: 'I am delighted that the company has been recognised for high standards.'
