M&B and SA Brain back pubwatch
Managed pub operator Mitchells & Butlers and brewer SA Brain are the latest companies to pledge a donation to National Pubwatch.
M&B, Britain's second-biggest managed operator, has donated £3,000 while Cardiff-based Brains gave £500.
The donations bring National Pubwatch's total sponsorship to £27,500. The organisation, which helps co-ordinate and assist local pubwatch schemes across the country, aims to raise £50,000 a year to enable members to cope with their growing workload.
Other companies that have pledged cash to National Pubwatch include Scottish Courage, JD Wetherspoon, Shepherd Neame, Anheuser-Busch, Greene King, the BII and Caledonian Brewery.
National Pubwatch honorary secretary Malcolm Eidmans said he was hopeful that another big regional brewer would soon donate cash as well.
Meanwhile, the group is reporting a steady increase in circulation for its newsletter, with the current edition topping 17,000 copies.
Eidmans said he received 600 new requests for the September newsletter within two weeks, and he expects the next edition to be sent to more than 18,000 hosts and other interested parties.
