Michael Hall is Proud of His Staff

The small team of staff at the New Inn, Buckingham, are the latest to be nominated for The Publican​'s Proud of your Staff initiative.

Licensee Michael Hall has nominated his staff after they pulled together to keep the pub running smoothly when he suffered a stroke in June.

"After I had my stroke and was taken into hospital, the staff all joined in to help out," says Michael. "My sons came back to work in the bar, and all the staff carried on working as if nothing had happened.

"They started work early and finished late, helped with cleaning and organising the pub. They went way beyond expectations. They also visited me in hospital, which was really appreciated."

The team of one full-time and five part-time workers includes one member of staff who has worked at the pub for 24 years.

Michael says that his team represents a perfect example of "what Britain's pubs should be like".

"We've gone over the top with laws on hours and such like but me and my staff have a very relaxed attitude," he adds. "They work for the fact that they want to do their jobs properly. They enjoy their job but also have a sense of responsibility."
