Despite the forecast of at least another week of torrential rain, Londoners can dream of better things to come with a picnic hamper service launched by the Old Bank of England pub on Fleet Street

The Fuller's-owned pub expects the hampers to appeal to City workers looking to enjoy an al fresco lunch in nearby open spaces, such as Lincoln's Inns Fields or Temple Gardens - if the sun ever comes out again.

The hampers include a rug, plates, cutlery, napkins and food for up to four people. The Old Bank will also supply drinks to take out including beers, wines, or Pimms and lemonade.

Prices start at £24 for a hamper for two people, which includes sandwiches, smoked salmon and strawberries, up to £50 for a deluxe hamper for four people, which also includes barbecue chicken, king prawn skewers and other goodies. All the food is prepared on site and is made from fresh ingredients.

James Carman, manager of the Old Bank, said: "The summer may be short, but we all want to make the most of it. I wanted to offer my customers something extra to make the summer in London a little more enjoyable - and I think a picnic in the park is the perfect solution.".
