The British love for Eastern cuisine continues to grow apace, says Tilda. Meal sales at Indian restaurants are up 29% year on year, Chinese cuisine has the second-biggest share of the UK market and Thai restaurants are gaining in popularity. So for a slice of the action, host an Eastern cuisine theme night. Tilda advises:
l Outline and plan the event: who you are targeting, what format the night will take, etc.
l Ask suppliers for help: contact main suppliers and tell them you are holding a theme night. They may be able to provide support with free products or promotional material. A theme kit is available from Tilda.
l Link to a charity: donating some of the money raised from the night to a charity can encourage attendance and help when publicising it. National Curry Week, from 20 to 28 October (see Coming up in October, p94) aims to raise money for Oxfam with ideas including a national draw.
l Ask local organisations for support: consider hosting an auction with proceeds going to charity and inviting local sports teams to supply signed merchandise, which is always popular.
