One London-based Greene King pub has already benefited from the Suffolk

brewers sponsorship deal with England rugby.

The deal, the biggest in Greene King's history, means all of its pubs will become Official Supporters' Pubs of England Rugby with in-pub promotions running over the rugby season and for every England match.

There are also opportunities for Greene King IPA drinkers across the country to win tickets to watch England play at Twickenham.

Unlike England's dismal

display against Argentina, the Old Garage in Southfields enjoyed a fine day with 150 people crammed in to watch the game.

"It has been great and there have been plenty of giveaways from bottles of IPA to rugby balls," said manager Ben Nichols. "The promotional material has really made a difference, it is jogging people's memories. We did not sell much IPA before, but we did this weekend."

Nichols expects another bumper weekend as England take on South Africa. "There is a large South African base here," he said.

Greene King managing director Justin Adams added: "We know that over 10 million ale drinkers watch rugby on TV, and that over three million attend the games.

"So this sponsorship gives us a powerful new way to connect with our consumers and pub-goers and allows our pubs a great opportunity to offer new and exciting promotions."
