Daniel Thwaites is to celebrate its 200th anniversary in style with the launch of a new permanent cask ale brand.
Created by head brewer Steve Fielding following consumer research, Double Century will be 4.8 per cent ABV on cask and 5.2 per cent in bottle.
"When we began conducting the research the first thing we found was a general affection for Thwaites and a ringing endorsement for a commemorative ale to mark the two hundred years," said Lee Williams, brands marketing manager for Thwaites.
"Consumers said they would purchase and sample a beer that came from such an established background."
The Blackburn-based brewer has big plans for its bi-centenary, as Brian Jenkins, sales and marketing director for the brewer, explained. "There is a whole host of events planned to celebrate our historic successes and our optimism for the future. We hope people will get involved and will make the activity as interactive as possible."
The official celebrations will immediately get underway in January, while the centrepiece to the year will be huge staff party on the pitch at Ewood Park stadium, Blackburn across a weekend in June.
