The Security Industry Authority says its latest figures show there are over 130,000 people qualified to be pub door supervisors in England and Wales.
The number is way over the industry estimate of 86,000 which the SIA was told to expect.
Perhaps showing that more people have been attracted to the job since the introduction of the SIA licence.
It is essential for those working in the security industry to have undergone a structured programme of trainingHeather Priddle, SIA licensing manager.
However, the figure does not mean there are 130,000 doorstaff currently working.
The SIA, which holds exams for other security related qualifications, released the figures after handing out its 300,000 qualification overall.
Heather Priddle, SIA licensing manager said: "This is a great achievement for the private security industry.
"It is essential for those working in the security industry to have undergone a structured programme of training and education resulting in recognised qualifications if they are going to be effective and professional in their role.
"The aim of SIA approved training and qualifications is to increase the skills and professionalism of those employed in the industry and to raise standards of performance."
